Isiolo reported its first COVID-19 case making it the 18th county in the country to register at least one confirmed case, the Ministry of Health said on Thursday.
Isiolo’s case was one of 25 new cases reported across the country, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman said.
The county, however, had already begun putting in place measures in preparation for the spread of the virus.
Last month, Isiolo’s Emergency Response Team ordered the closure of its border points with Wajir and Garissa after Mandera County confirmed it had two COVID-19 cases.
The county government also began distributing foodstuffs to vulnerable families to cushion them against the fallout from the virus’ spread.
Isiolo was recently in the news when Governor Mohamed Kuti denied allegations that the county government rented some of the Covid-19 intensive care unit beds at Isiolo Referral Hospital from a private facility.
