Machakos County became the 19th county in the country to record at least one positive COVID-19 case, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said that the positive COVID-19 case is of a health worker who works in the capital Nairobi but resides in Athi River area, which is in Machakos County.
However, Athi River area is classified by the national government as being part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, which currently under an extended containment period.
“The health worker has been living in Nairobi for several weeks – past the 14 day quarantine window – tending to patients and hasn’t been to our county for a while,” Governor Mutua tweeted.
The case in Machakos was one of 14 new COVID-19 cases reported by the Ministry of Health. On Thursday, Isiolo also reported its first case. The country so far has a total of 621 cases.
