Peter Munya says DP Ruto gave Mt Kenya a raw deal – The Standard

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has told Mt Kenya voters to reconsider their support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the Kenya Kwanza alliance has nothing to offer them.
Speaking at Wamagana in Nyeri County, Munya claimed the region will be a mere ‘spectator’ if Ruto wins the forthcoming polls.
Munya said the region got a raw deal in the power-sharing agreement between Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC and Moses Wetangula’s Ford-Kenya.

He said with 30 per cent of the government having been reserved for Western region through ANC and Ford Kenya, there was nothing left for the region which has the biggest voting block.

“As far as you are concerned, you do not have anything in Ruto’s administration. All the seats, according to the agreement, have been allocated elsewhere yet this region has more than five million votes,” said Munya while launching a fish processing factory.
He told residents that their interests would be well-taken care off in the Azimio coalition led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“We in Azimio have taken care of your interests. In fact, the Jubilee administration has invested heavily on agriculture which is your mainstay. Why would you waste time in UDA,” said Munya.
He said that unless people vote for Azimio, gains made in coffee, tea and fish sub-sectors will be reversed by UDA whose leaders, he claimed spend more time politicking.
Separately, the Jubilee Party has told off the Deputy President for planning to create Prime Cabinet Secretary’s position in his power-sharing deal under the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi yesterday, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni said it is unbelievable how DP Ruto opposed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which was to establish such a position.
‘‘It is amazing to see that the Deputy President used his entire time during the second term to oppose anything that was in BBI. Now, he wants to use the ideas to benefit himself and those looking for leadership positions in his coalition,’’ said Kioni.
Kioni said Jubilee has 1,385 candidates running for various positions. At the event, musician Kevin Bahati was issued with a Jubilee party ticket to vie for the Mathare constituency.
